The Mock Trial Competition Team at Auburn University is governed by the Executive Board, comprised of five officers, and three to six team captains. The Executive Board is assisted by Debra Armstrong-Wright, coordinator for the Pre-Law Scholars Program at Auburn University, who serves as faculty advisor for the Team. The Executive Board is responsible for registering the team for competitions, enforcing general team bylaws and procedures, and overseeing fundraising efforts. The President, Vice President of Education, Vice President of Recruitment, Vice President of Marketing, and Vice President of Diversity, Inclusion, and Unity, comprise the Executive Board.
The President presides over all meetings and acts as the general representative for the team. They are also responsible for communicating with other teams in order to secure spots at invitationals and registering the team for events.
The Vice President of Education acts as an instructor to both new and returning members. This position consists of coordinating educational sessions throughout the year and instructing new members on the rules of evidence, case law, and general courtroom etiquette.
The Vice President of Recruitment serves as the liaison between the Executive Board and potential new members. This role includes overseeing recruitment, the creation and distribution of a tryout packet, and maintaining frequent contact with prospective new members.
The Vice President of Marketing creates and manages the team’s social media presence, coordinates the creation of team merchandise, and maintains the website. This position also entails planning fundraisers and collecting annual dues.
The Mock Trial Competition Team at Auburn University recognizes that a diverse membership will advance the educational objectives of the mock trial team and is committed to developing a team that is rich in varied backgrounds, viewpoints, and experiences. The Vice President of Diversity, Inclusion, and Unity is responsible for expanding the team’s outreach efforts to enhance team diversity. The VP, DIU is charged with taking affirmative steps to ensure equity and fairness in the tryout process. This position also requires the planning and execution of any team-sponsored social events throughout the year to maintain team bonding and unity.
